"brick" it is

A term spoken by the tri/du community of endurance racing. I participate in said events occasionally but never train like it. This afternoon a long MTB ride was in my liking but the fine snow condensed when it amounted making it brutal to roll through. For the first time this winter I scrapped together the mental fortitude to press on after I knew I'd be turning back soon. I made this decision at the head of Amity but continued to the other end and took the left to Hawk Ridge for the descent. I'd try some singletrack before dropping to 7 Bridges but it was punched full of holes. Very good cadence and power transfer to the pedals!

When I got home I chose to take only a short pit for food, a chat w/Erik about a possible ski on the Sugarbush and a change of clothes before heading back to the park w/the snowshoes. I'm definitely going to be mounting a more substantial shoe as my feet curled around the crampons and got painful. Conditions of late haven't been very enjoyable since the trails are hardening from traffic. I did some backcountry to avoid the problem above Hawk Ridge and got to see how deep untouched powder in our region is currently...WOW!

Clint and Andrea have a gracious shindig planned for the DRC team this evening but Jen and I are choosing to drink warm red wine and watch old seasons of "Sex and the City" instead. We're being shut-ins because my racing schedule heats up soon and she spends an awful lot of time rehearsing at The Playhouse. Which means hanging out together doesn't happen as often as it should. May all of you be setting lofty goals for '09 and well on your way!!

Duration on the bike: 1 hour 25 minutes
" " " snowshoes: 1 hour 42 minutes

Dave and Jen-
missed you guys last night. it would have been fun hanging with you but i can see your point of hanging together... that is necessary some times!
You will be glad to know that Kari and I along with the Mizuno rep Jesse and his wife, Clint and Andrea made it to the end of the night at Carmody's. At least being a Master, (me almost), has it's benefits... all the youth went out too hard and couldn't make the long night.
Ha, Ha...

Gregg-

I've been meaning to contact you for either a trail run or snowshoe w/all the dumpngs that have conveniently fallen on the weekends. Looks like I'll have to give you a bit of time based on your photo. I too have dealt w/that before but in my case it happened from wearing gators that had snug elastic. Heal up and we'll get out during some of this great winter together. Glad to see at least some other than me use beer in the recovery plan!
