On Friday, I chose to scope out the woods for snowpack w/the ensuing pedal to kick off the weekend. I ran the duathlon course and found there was more fluff than I expected. Getting away from the pavement was great as it has been a couple months.

A snowmobiler will usually hit the trails even when a single flake drops between the grass blades. We received a little more of accumulation overnight which proved to make it a load of work w/o the traffic to assist me. Regardless, I set out and made it to Hartley once again but this time drenched in sweat. I dressed the same as a week ago as I didn't consider how much of a temperature swing occurred.....opps! Seeing myself gain confidence in selecting lines in the singletrack kept me driving on. The return home while a gradual descent, seemed just as hard because I bonked like nobody's business. Pancakes have failed me in the past and this experience will not repeat as my breakfast will always be of a different substance. I intentionally try to waste myself on these efforts by not bringing any food along but I could have gone w/o the crash I suffered coming down a steep piece of snomo trail at Lester Park Hockey Rinks. I should have remembered how rutted this spot is from ATVs. Risk is part of the pleasure to being a MTB racer and w/o it there is no point in riding personally. I haven't took a spill like this in quite sometime and now my right shoulder isn't very happy...
