two cx @ home

I decided for no reason to only use my commuting as training during the work week since I had a local doubleheader of cyclocross lined up for the weekend. Saturday, the race was held on the ski trails of Snowflake Nordic under the lights. The event was kind of a spinoff of the huge main show at 'Cross Vegas' midweek. To have something like this take place in Duluth, MN was quite special indeed and those that didn't make the trip from the TC missed out. With the exception of a dark hairpin turn due to the failure of a generator w/four laps to go, things were fabulous! By that time, all competitors had a half dozen in so we had a rhythm engraved in our brains to finish it out. The conditions were epic as 85% of the course was a swamp from the heavy rains the night before. Add some hills and this was a delight for me.
Sunday, having a little more than a half day to recovery most were taking to the battle field again but this venue would be Marshall HS. The course would be a traditional course with the surfaces consisting of pavement, cinder/gravel track, woodchips & more MUD! There was a triple barrier section and a monstrous runup that needed no obstacle to force even the most powerful of riders to dismount. I bounced back fairly well from last night only to not have ladyluck on my side. On the first lap after an ungraceful remount, I burped my rear tire and lost a consider amount of air. Going cautious for another couple of laps it happened again and I fortunately had Jen near to yell for her to get my floor pump from the trunk of our car and bring it to the pit for me to stop for a fill. The gauge registered 10 psi which I thought was amazing for a rider of my size to keep it from folding off the rim. I got worked my way thru the field to almost bridge up to the group I was in on a strong bell lap. Overall, this was a great opening weekend to the season and probably the best I've felt this early on.
