Yesterday I went down to Minneapolis for the preseason social gathering at the HQ where all the magic happens. We even got a tour and saw their brand new $220,000 diedrich roaster!! Since I missed this last year due to joining afterwards it was great to chat w/people and see the newest members too. In addition to sipping the best java in town, we had fresh scones supplied to us from another one of our gracious sponsors, Birchwood Cafe. Once everyone reached satiety the morning ended w/a team photo op and distributing the racer ID, water bottle, kit, & one pound of bean.
As far as this recovery week goes, I'm feeling very optimistic now. The only biking I did was in the form of commuting on the MTB. My decision was based on the need to pedal an easier gear ratio and get familiarized w/changes that have been made to it. Wearing a HR monitor came unnecessary being certain the effort didn't even creep into triple digits. Taking a few days off between the only two runs done may have been good to me. Driving Jen to the Tri Camp early today gave me a chance to see how the IT band is around race time. Some extraneous variables included using a cho pat knee strap and 400 mg of Naproxen. This was the longest I've gone in three weeks w/o pain so I'll keep positive.
