spa treatment
For the remainder of the last work week I pedalled to and from. Come Saturday, a thought of Groundhog Day being just around the corner made it seem like the right time for a midwinter evaluation. Going to the CPF allowed me to control the environment for a little treadmill action. Once warmed up for 10 minutes @ 7:53/mile I'd gradually increase the speed to where my HR fell into the usual tempo zone for 15 minutes. This stopped at 6:44/mile which is quite slow but I haven't ran since the snowshoe marathon and my economy probably isn't great from all that sort of training. One thing I mainly looked for was whether my lub dub would recover during the five-minute cooldown. It stayed elevated for the most part w/a slight drop that was hard to notice. As a result, Sunday I chose to stand on Hawk Ridge w/my friend Dudley as he shot images of mushers and their string of Alaskan Huskies. If you get a chance some year then watch the Beargrease negotiate the hard right through a gate which has 50% of the sleds bump a tree trunk coming out of the corner! Them dogs can't help but maintain a wide open throttle. When I was done spectating the hot tub at the CPF sounded really nice. Soaking and steaming in the sauna consumed that visit. I'm presuming that more of an emphasis will be on quality than quantity in the next group of workouts.
