feast w/o guilt

A Thanksgiving Day morning race is a smart idea whether you are in shape or not(like me) and we've got one of the best in Duluth! For about 20 minutes a couple hours before go time the sky dropped a thick bunch of snow in a hurry that only amounted to maybe a few tenths but there was nothing that could have been done at the point in time in came. As for myself, I welcomed it as I really didn't care to see what would have been another slow result w/clean streets, so...you could say I had it perfect!! I sort of laughed after the first half a block and knew there'd be no use in fighting the slippery packed conditions. At the turnaround, I made eye contact w/Rochelle Wirth(woman's leader) and did my deed for the day by pulling her up thru some of the group to the end. She poked me in the back upon leaving the chute to acknowledge her appreciation. Playing domestique is very rewarding when you know your chances of being a contender are slim to none. I made a comment about a month ago that a 19-minute 5k wasn't too far off and I was right. A speedy 19:37 got me a surprising 22nd place overall. Record numbers again for the turnout and I realized after talking w/Kraig that there's got to be some goofy hat I can wear during this event. I did a Pumpkin Run 5k around Halloween and could have worn a blaze orange wicking shirt that I won in Lutsen back in May to go along w/the theme but felt obliged to suit up in my DRC uniform. The shop owns this event and I could represent and have fun running like a turkey for the Gobble Gallop 5k. Yeah, this is a personal mission for the next one!

Mountain biking was the exercise this afternoon before swapping rigs for the commute to work. I did a mix of snomo, nordic, & horse trails out to Jean Duluth Road and back for an easy hour.
