obsession

Back in the fall of '06 I was on my way down to Coralville, IA for Jingle Cross Rock in the shape I'm in right now. The only difference being that weekend was random and this one coming up followed a script. Every racer is a project in the making in search of that ideal conditioning for what I like to call a BIG DANCE! Mine happens to be 24 Hours of Nine Mile and I've been thinking about this event since we last had snow on the ground. Call it luck or maybe I got it figured out but my preparation has granted me an opportunity to perform at my best. I've learned to avoid the temptation of greed that often leads to an early peak in form. It may be a cliche but there might be some truth in the expression "good things happen to those who wait." I've watched video documentaries and read countless blogs to gain as much knowledge a person needs for trying to conquer something of this magnitude. I've been a competitive mountain biker for a decade but only at your standard cross country venues going for distance rather than duration. Even though I'm a novice I feel that my head is wrapped around the concept. I know I'm going to go through some dark times and I'm not referring to when the sun goes down either. There's a lot of strategy and gear that must be considered in order to just keep yourself moving. Having said that, I should get ready...
