Now I know...

My objective this weekend was to see how much fitness I really have @ this moment and what I found out was a bit discouraging yet very motivating. I don't ever like letting myself get too far gone as I know how much I've struggled in the past to bring me back. One thing everyone knows and I won't even try and dispute it is that I LOVE FOOD!! I eat the same no matter what time of the year and that'll always be the case. Which doesn't bode well for the windows of time that you're not training a lot. I'm not a Jan Ullrich by any stretch of the imagination but my diesel engine like his takes a pair of jumper cables in the preseason sometimes.

Saturday, I got out on my snowshoes for what turned into a death march near the end. I started out redoing the paths I established last weekend as they had blown in. I shuffled at a brisk pace on Ridgeview GC and from there I entered Hartley where I began to stride on the "guardrail trail" for awhile. While in the park I decided to groom the inner "blue pot loop" which apparently has not seen any traffic this winter. This was a hard trudge but my leg strength faded right before I got back out on the "guardrail trail" to run. Once back on the links I just made my way back to the car lot w/o an incident.

Sunday, I went out to Boulder Lake to help my pal Dudley learn the skate technique on nordic skis. It was a warm afternoon w/sticky snow that had us sinking on the glide(quite an effort). Good thing we have a ton of it because a person could almost watch the level drop. I don't know what kind of example I was but he claimed he picked up a few pointers that made it better. I had a nice time and realized that I need to bring more sport beans, gels, etc. I'm not burning fuel efficiently yet and notice when I go dry all systems come undone in a hurry.
