home game

It's nice kicking off the competitive year w/o having to drive far. With the temperature -15F @ the start made conditions firm on Lester Park ski trails and the private land that doesn't see traffic other than the snowmobile that marked the course. I got what I expected and even a little more. I took it out in the lead for the prologue but after that I realized I wanted someone else to dictate the pace as I would have gotten in over my head. I haven't done a single workout yet this year simulating a race and the shock hit me early on. Taking chances on poker bets whether letting the opposition go free out of sight around two kilometers came as a surprise to me when done. I've put myself in these circumstances before when I've known not to be in good enough shape for competition and sometimes they come back. I spotted the runner-up as we returned to the ski trails but wasn't able to bridge the gap. The winner though was about the same distance ahead of him and I hadn't seen this individual for the last hour and a half! Dynamics can be fun in review!! Otherwise, I had bettered my time on this course by six minutes and finished third overall which had me very pleased.

Duration: 1 hour 55 minutes
Mileage: half marathon
