We've gotten a couple of nice accumulations in as many days and w/the mercury in the high teens of late, I decided to pull the skate ski equipment out of the bag. Yesterday, I had as good of a freestyle ski as I ever have!!! It was a whole body workout as my shoulders, back, glutes, etc etc were all contributing which made for great balance. Today, as I walked over to the park I heard BEEP BEEP BEEP and knew I'd be following the groomer up the hill on virgin corduroy. The driver came back on me further up the course, forcing me to head down early at a fork which I accepted as a blessing since the trail was really soft. Leaving the classic track for the skate lane is something I'm wanting to do as much as the conditions permit because my frontal plane muscles need attention.
Tomorrow, I'm heading north to Boulder Lake to get my ticket stamped for the Snowshoe National Championship, eight weeks from now. My approach in the morning will be very relaxed because I know there is no place for me in a race currently. Hacksawing the lateral claws off my snowshoe cleats is something I'll be demoing and uncertain how it will go having not seen various snowpack...
Gotta bolt out to see The Good Body: a staged reading @ Duluth Play Ground this evening followed by copious wine drinking--i.e., hydration.
