we might STRIKE

I'm a member of Local 9460 and yesterday we voted down SMDC's last, best & final offer. We also voted for an intent to strike or informational picketing. Personally, I think it sucks just as much as the next individual that the CEO and other bigwigs get their wage increases, bonuses, yada yada yada but this isn't the old times still now. Back in 2003 we got to this point and they folded. I don't see it happening that way again in a poor economy but we'll know soon. Also, we were protected back then by a labor practice grievance filed. This episode we are not because it is strictly financial which isn't good enough reason. I'm neither for or against unions! Pros: they a great for all the legislative knowledge and judiciary cards that can be pulled on you in court. Cons: having no confidence in mine, for example, leads me to say often barbaric organization won't be effective. I live a very minimalist lifestyle not because I'm forced to but because I choose to and wouldn't have it any other way. Greed is a sin against God and part of me hopes SMDC rids us all for those in particular that aren't already happy enough to see that what they've got isn't too bad.

On a different note, MN recently lost a snowshoeing ambassador in Cindy Brochman. Many of us that will be @ the race on Saturday will attend this memorial on Sunday in WBL. My heart is heavy surrounding this as she gets equal credit to introducing me to such a great sport as the late Timmy Dusick(who also lost a battle w/cancer). Always acting like a motherly figure when reserving group hotel stays out of town, potlucks, etc. Above all though, her positive spirit was there even during the gloomy moments. With an exhibition event nearing the closing ceremony of this Winter Games she would have been delighted to witness this work in progress!!!
