NO traction or caffeine
Driving over to Ashland, WI for the Whistlestop races was freaky as the wind and snow made visibility poor. I decided to jump into the 5k in order to participate and get a brief cyclocross effort done prior to taking pictures of Jen running her second half marathon(which she got a PR in)! Organizers changed the start time an hour earlier this year which proved fatal to my event. I own a pair of brooks T4 racers that are great but are the worst in conditions like the black ice over the home stretch. Not even a half hour later I spoke w/10k athletes the said the sun melted it off by the moment they hit the pavement. Oh well, I still got to do my little experiment to find out coffee is an absolute must for me. Going through the motions felt so unlike myself which is kind of disturbing being this chemically dependent. At least it's not a banned substance. I can't say what my time was since it differed in three locations: printout, my watch, & the jumbotron. I'm wanting to run a couple more w/o a HR monitor or any timing device to not be disappointed again. Plus, listening only to my body will put me into a different element too.
