Railroad to Becks

Well, after some quick bouts last week I chose to flip-flop & take on BIG volume. Began Monday easy w/Harry Anderson for a trail run in Piedmont(44 minutes @ HR of 134 bpm). Tues, Wed, Thurs were on the mountain bike 2+/- hours each day and Friday concluded the work week by commuting on pavement for an hour. Saturday is where I got jazzed as I had planned to leave the car in the Depot lot to take the pedestrian bridge over I35 to enter the climb on the Superior Hiking Trail and stay on it until I was ready to call Jen to pick me up. This enabled her to do a nice point-to-point run too. I've been on segments across town in the western direction but haven't seen it all. Very impressive and the committee had no mercy on those flatlanders visiting our area. The route dropping below Skyline on the west side of Enger was nice and surprised me in how it brings you back up using plots of wooded land I wasn't familiar to going. Another beautiful part came descending from Getchell once hurdling a guardrail to be next to Keene Creek prior to crossing Cody Street. The topography as I ran beneath the train tracks up behind the zoo on my way to Spirit Mountain was more difficult than anticipated. From there on to Magney/Snively was a repeat but going over Ely's Peak is always a treat. So, 3 hours and 37 minutes of continuous shuffling later and that would do it. **Gels will never be purchased by me again after using ENSURE w/astonishing effects!** Being able to take calories from other sources like protein and fat is important I believe and drinking a light meal in an 8 oz bottle is great. Sunday had Dudley and I caught out beyond sunset pedaling the roads for ~2 hours.
