record breaking

Looking at the fast results from the Birkie this morning I had to see the conditions for myself. A group of us decided to chase our individual pursuits rather than do a night group run this evening which made me happy. Running just isn't appealing right now when there are so many other activities in prime state currently!! Typically, my winter pattern is to classic ski until late February/early March and then freestyle(skate) while the snow is leaving. Reason being, coming off the trail running & cyclocross seasons in the fall everything is done in a sagittal plane and so I like to keep it that way at the beginning while introducing a bit of frontal plane by doing some bow-legged snowshoeing as it is known for. Transverse plane was brought back into the equation too by getting back into the pool. By now, skating feels comfortable and I had an excellent ski today!!!! Softened snow from the warmth in the air allowed for one to get a nice edge to push off and glide. Occasionally, temperature & humidity are right on to the point where it doesn't matter what a person has on their bases(in my case, no wax...just p-tex) and you'll cruise!!! Plus, you're so open face when skate skiing that if you do it on cold and windy days you freeze much quicker. Hitting the trail @ 1630 I used the sun as my timer and went 'til it disappeared below the horizon. VO2 max test next week and a coach consult to follow.....
