3.1 & 13.1

I'm usually banged up from Grandma's and have no interest in taking the short drive up the Scenic 61 to run what is definitely a gem. Going to a place like Knife River you really get that small town atmosphere and see how much you mean to them for supporting their community. Some agitation in my gut from what Jen is almost positive to be food poisoning after bringing me some pasta salad at work that I later found out was in a roasting car while she tried on wetsuits. This had her feeling horrible but I reassured her that I was more excited about the king salmon to eat following the event. The course was a shocker in that it had hilly terrain on both paved neighborhood roads and dirt trails along the river. Results were 2nd overall(won my age group) in 18:25. Conditions were drizzly and breezy which helped me keep an even stride throughout the race. Otherwise, the mug collection at home is still growing and neither of us got skunked during door prizes! Jen had to leave early to make callbacks as she is auditioning this week but didn't need to be present for the raffle. We rehearsed it and I brought my bike to pedal the half marathon back to Lakeside.

Dave, nice job out there on Saturday! It is a heck of a hilly course when what you see of Knife River from the road is flat. At least you (should have) had the wind at your back for the ride home ;->

This is one of my favorite races due to all the support and amazing amount of door prizes they are able to gather. Plus a chance to see old friends. Normally a hot and humid race, this year the cool weather was a surprise.

Don't know if you heard about this race, but it looked like something you might be interested in:

wildknits-Why didn't that weather come a week sooner?

PR-Glad you see you've got some cyclocross up your way and I will consider it as new venues are always welcome! Thanks for the tip as it led me onto an event schedule for the Copper Harbor Fat Tire Festival which I've heard positive things and it happens on Labor Day weekend. I'm thinking there's a good chance I'll make this one and if I do then we'll have to go for coffee and run some trails.

Yeah - Grandma's really needs to get back to it's traditional cooler weather. When you feel too hot walking down to the race you know it is a bad day to run.
