weather gods

This subject could be a good or bad one depending on where you live in the midwest from what I've noticed this weekend. However, in Duluth there was nothing but ideal conditions for today and yesterday!!!! Wow, plentiful sunshine, calm winds, temperatures in the 50's, & low humidity. It just made me want to be outside constantly. Spent Saturday on the MTB dialing in a couple changes going up through Lester, over on the Amity Creek Trail, continuing down more double and singletrack around the cemeteries until arriving at Hartley. My KONA is rolling great and I plainly had fun on very dry trails. Only bummer to report was my HR monitor is in need of a battery. Oh well, on the route I chose the power spikes were the dominating feature to graph anyway. **which leads to a side note....unless I'm biking clear across town, this out-n-back won't be done again due to the extreme variance in the middle** When I got home I washed the car(interior & exterior) knowing this would set me up for an interesting Sunday. Erik picked me up this morning while Jen and I were potting flowers on the balcony. Originally, we thought of looking at the North Country Trail in WI but decided to go up the North Shore yet again to old reliable. SHT between Hwy 1 and Bear & Bean Lakes proved to be a difficult segment. Good thing I took my training partner's advice to bring one of his extra water bottles and ditch it along the course for the return trip. Even though I hyperhydrated, one handheld bottle would have been fatal. Using only two GU roctanes gave me the woozy low glycogen effort desired but was like a kid in a candy store once back at the vehicle since Erik packed pitas w/hummus and kalamata olives for the both of us!! Thanks buddy, I owe ya and won't forget it...
