Yep, I'm 100% local now in terms of racing affiliations! Leaving the Minneapolis-based Peace Coffee Racing was not an easy decision. Their welcoming and supportive manners to a lone rider from the north had me taken aback on numerous occasions. My relationship w/them will continue positive and already have plans to meet up for training rides when down that way. Plus, when your sponsor provides a legalized performance enhancer it's hard for an addict to walk away on a sober mind. Regardless, I will never drink another kind of bean roasted elsewhere after seeing the morals of that operation in action.
However, the mission statement of the team didn't meet my immediate goals as a bike racer. Being the title sponsor of the MN State Championship Series of MTB gives them motivation to win the team award. My involvement w/mountain bikes these days is only in ultra endurance type races and my primary focus, in general, is cyclocross!! They recognized it entirely but I just felt like I was missing out on a lot of the camaraderie by not contributing for the good of the group.
So, I've joined VeloDuluth/TPC and have a friend that is as head over heels about 'cross as I am!!! My skinsuit is in production too which will be nice to wear for a change in this discipline as it is more functional. OPTIMISM IS RUSHING THRU ME
