Thanksgiving Day has been the coldest so far this autumn season which made for yet another classic Gobble Gallop thru downtown @ 9:30 AM. I rode my bike down there to get warm as it is not easy on mornings that show up as 11 degrees F on the North Shore Bank sign in Lakeside.....brrrrr! Didn't really matter, I was only concerned w/having fun w/o getting hurt since my total speedwork could be counted on one hand minus thumb for the entire year. So, I gave myself a bit more peace in mind by wearing a pair of get-a-grips on my feet too since the pavement was plowed but still messy from white stuff that fell the night before. Huge turnout again despite the weather conditions and even though a new course was installed for the purpose of promoting the big move that the Duluth Running Company is nearly ready for had zero impact on how the event came off. The s/f lines just got nudged a couple blocks west and in my opinion gave improvement to the whole flow of the run. Went purely off effort and NO WATCH to be certain I'd keep it real. A little strain here & there was experienced but overall my feeling was under control. Placing 21st @ 18:35 under the circumstances left me optimistic about this prelude.
On Saturday, a nice group of seven met @ Boulder Lake around 6 PM for stomping in powder. Being out away from the city under headlamp in thick woods is fabulous and we all knew immediately that evenings like it will be repeated throughout the winter!! My snowshoe legs felt great as trudging in virgin fluff came relatively easy. It was a calamity for Hypo as a hip flexor forced him to resign early while Tony was at war over a faulty binding system that he defeated using electrical tape. Otherwise, now that all the dressing and sweet potatoes have been consumed, I going to chisel my adipose in order to get fast...
