Wow, last month ended on a high note and the real racing begins this first weekend in June! The machine held together on that bluff in the Saint Croix River Valley and I now see what Tony means w/all this hot weather stuff. My legs were really good on this relentless course where the DNFs tally more than other venues. Heading out casually w/a few guys that had similar agendas to either just survive or use it as a training day made it easy for me to not have the urge to climb like a goat. Effort was probably slightly greater than a 12-hour event. Being on a single speed drew some attention which made for a lot of nice encouragement by fellow racers and spectators alike. Hydration was difficult to stay on top of and my head expressed it just for a brief period during the third of four laps. Despite a couple blisters(one for each palm) I came away unscathed. Completing the sunny afternoon grazing on a spread of picnic foods w/my teammates made the drive worthwhile. If my legs aren't shot to hell after the deep south then I'd really like to head out to Mont Du Lac but now it's time to load the car down full of bike and camping gear...
